A common problem in print is that files are not prepared in the best way possible, and what looks great on screen may not look as good when finaly printed. The instructions below can help to ensure that your product is of the highest quality when it goes to print and can also save you a lot of time, hassle and more importantly money in the long run.

1. Applications
grgprint.com supports most of the major DTP applications including QuarkXPress (up to version 6), Freehand and the Adobe Creative Suite to name a few. The most preferable format to supply jobs in is QuarkXPress.

2. Before you send
Please remember to supply all linked graphics. This can be done quite easly by using the collect for output option in QuarkXPress, Freehand & InDesign. Remember to ensure that any RGB, LAB or Index graphics are converted to process CMYK, and as a rule the minimum resolution we advise to use for a raster graphic would be 300dpi, and 900dpi for bitmaps. We can not be held responsible for the poor outcome of graphics that are of a lower resolution than this.
Also, we print jobs with a 3mm bleed (image or colour overlap) so any item touching the border of the page must be extended to overlap the page border by at least 3mm.
Last but not least if you have used any unusual fonts within your job please convert these to outlines (paths).

3. If sending artwork eg. Quark
Once you have collected your artwork and graphics etc it is a good idea to compress this using Aladdin Systems Drop stuff. This is a free Mac application downloadable from www.stuffit.com ( if using a PC please use WinZip). By compressing your job it will take less time to burn to CD, or send to us via email, ISDN or FTP.

4. If sending a Print Ready PDF
If you are printing from QuarkXPress 4 or 5 please use an Acrobat Distiller ppd or similar, make sure your bleed is set to 3mm on all edges and under the setup tab set the page size to be 6mm wider and taller than the finished page size. You should be using Adobe PS version 8.8 and virtual printer to print to postcript. If you are not using this you can download it from clicking the link www.adobe.com If you are using coloured up tiffs in QuarkXPress 4 or 5 we advise you to use the following XT Creo Color TIFF XT. Once you have created your postcript you can create your pdf using Acrobat Distiller. If printing from Quark 4 or 5 please use the following Distiller job options grgprint.com QXP 4 or 5 settings, if your printing from Quark Xpress 6 or any other application use these job options grgprint.com settings.

If you are in any doubt about any of these settings or you have any further questions please don't hesitate to contact Francis Grogan in the repro department on 0113 383 3888 or on the email
